Swing Clothes - What to Wear for Swing Dancing

Swing

Swing Dancing Clothes: let's start at the feet and work our way up. Comfortable dance shoes are very important. Dancing involves a lot of twisting and turning of the feet, so in order to be kind to our knees and feet, we encourage dancers to wear comfortable shoes with leather or suede soles. Many Swing dancers have a rubber heal on their dance shoes. The theory behind having a rubber heal is that you can spin on the balls of your leather or suede-soled shoes, but still have traction (and therefore stability) on the rubber heals. Another factor that should be considered is the specific dance floor. One pair of dance shoes might be good on one floor, but not on another. If you're dancing on a floor for the first time, it doesn't hurt to bring 2 pairs of dance shoes: one that grips for a fast (slippery) dance floor, and one that easily slides for a slower (sticky) floor.

Where can you get good dance shoes? Art's Dance Shoes next to the Juanita Community Club in Kirkland is a good bet. He can create a custom pair of shoes or suggest a pair from the selection he already has on the shelf.

Art also has dancewear other than shoes. For Swing dancing, the rest of your outfit really depends on your personal style. From Zoot Suits to 20s, 30s, 40s & 50s garb or simply blue jeans, the choice is up to you. Often the mood of the dance venue will dictate the appropriate dance apparel.
